Parade Celebrates El Cerrito Centennial

Updated Saturday September 16, 2017 by El Cerrito Youth Baseball.

Meeting Location for Parade:  Meet in staging area of Safeway parking lot (across the street from Del Norte BART).  We are in the corner of the staging area that is closest to Safeway and San Pablo Avenue.  We are unit 22a.

El Cerrito celebrates its 100th birthday with a parade on September 16, 2017.  ECYB was founded in 1964 and part of the community for more than 50 years!  Our league will lead the sports section of the parade, which leaves from the new Safeway at 10 am.  It will be really fun - organizers expect 50 groups and 800 participants.  Here are the details:

Meet at the Safeway parking lot, across from Del Norte BART, by 8:45 am.  Plan to take BART, or you can park on the street or in the surface lot of the Del Norte station.  The ECYB contingent is designated "Unit #22a."  It appears that we have an assigned spot to gather toward the north side (Hill St.) of the parking lot.  Parade organizers want all participants to check in at the main registration table that will be set up in the Safeway lot.

Players should wear uniforms and street shoes, and parents may want to wear ECYB spirit wear or team hat and should have comfortable shoes.  Water bottles advisable.  We'll have a big ECYB banner to carry.  Feel free to invite other ECYB folks who may want to walk as well.

The parade begins at 10:00 am sharp.  It will cover 1.7 miles, ending up at Cerrito Vista Park.  The route is up Hill Street, then south on Richmond to Moeser, then left up to Cerrito Vista.  Once in Cerrito Vista, marchers will walk once around the park counterclockwise, and groups will be announced on the Moeser side of the park.

After the parade, there will be free sandwiches and cupcakes at the park (for the first 1,000 people), as well as a food truck, bouncy house, and other entertainment until 3 pm.  Beginning at 12:40 pm, a shuttle back to Del Norte will run from Cerrito Vista every 20 minutes.

If anyone doesn't feel comfortable walking the whole distance, please let us know.

Two informational letters from the City are attached for reference.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Mike Chamberlain at 415-637-1175 or Joe Takano at 510-289-2392.

Have fun, and let's show them some El Cerrito and ECYB pride!
